Viridian is also known as Very Dark Sea Greeen.
This zesty green color is named after the blue-green pigment that is so popular with artists. Viridian is derived from the Latin Virdis meaning green, youthful, and blooming. Artists embraced it in the early 19th century as a non-toxic alternative to greens that contained arsenic.
